Have you recently caught your teenager smoking? Or do suspect that your teenager is smoking?
Don’t rant and rave that only makes teens want to do it more. Instead talk to him or her about why they are smoking. Listen, don’t get mad. Educate them on the facts of smoking.
If you smoke, don’t expect you’re teen to quit just because you say so. Don’t use the “do as I say not what I do approach.” Kids are smatter than that these days.
They want to act like adults and mind you they do grow up before their time. Let’s face it. It is the age we are living in.
Talk to them about the cost of smoking and where their money to buy cigarettes comes from. Use the approach that instead of buying cigarettes you could say enough money in one year to buy a car, or something that you know that they want.
Explain to them the dangers of smoking and the nicotine addiction. That the longer they smoke the harder it will be to quit. Tell them that smoking causes really bad breath and no one wants to kiss someone with bad breath. You get the picture?
If you smoke don’t do it in front of them tell them how you really hate smoking and how bad you want to quit. If you are one of those parent who don’t smoke, asked your doctor for information for your teen or research it on the internet. |
