How to Stop Your Cravings When You Stop Smoking

To stop smoking you will have to have willpower and determination. You must be able to control the cravings that may accompany the withdrawal stage. As you begin to smoke less and less your body will begin to crave nicotine. This is called an addiction. In order to feed your addiction, you will have the desire to smoke. This is where your willpower and strength comes in. DO NOT feed that addiction.

A few days are all you need to get past the need to smoke. It usually takes 3 to 7 days for this desire to begin to diminish. Stay away from things that might remind you of smoking. Put up the ash trays; do not go out with your friends, family or co-workers when they take a smoke break. Do not drink alcohol. Most people smoke when they drink.

If you are one of those people who smoke directly after they eat or when they first get out of bed, change your routine. Set at the table after you eat and have a nice cold glass of water. This not only gives your hands something to do, it also helps to cleanse the nicotine from your system. When you get out of bed instead of lighting up a cigarette, get a glass of juice even two. Have a piece of toast and some cereal.
Change old habits to new ones.
