A person may experience various side effects while using nicotine patches. The most common side effect of these patches is headache and nausea which is generally experienced during the first week of treatment. If headache persist for a longer period of time then it should be consulted with the doctor to lower down the dosage of the patch. The nausea generally appears due to high dosage of nicotine and is reported more in those people who smoke cigarette even while using a nicotine patch. Wearing these patches at night during sleep can also cause vivid dreams and some people have even reported extremely memorable dreams. When people smoke while wearing patches it can also cause dizziness. Since nicotine is a stimulant and the patch delivers this nicotine in the body through a different way than inhaling through lungs, thus it can also lead to side effects like nervousness, restlessness and anxiety. If these feeling persist for a longer period of time then the dose of the patch should be reduced. The regular use of these patches can also cause the redness, rashes and itching on the skin.
