Chantix is a pill that is used to help people stop smoking. It also lets you smoke during the first week of taking these pills. Although many people have had great success with Chantix, it does have its side effects. Using Chantix under a doctor’s care can be very safe, don’t get discouraged by the side effects. Before beginning taking Chantix tell your doctor about any history of depression or mental health issues you may have had.
- If you have or notice someone taking Chantix has changes in their behavior, like mood swings, depression, hostility or agitation that is not typical of their personality; or if you or someone you know has anxiety or panic attacks, aggression, abnormal sensations, paranoia, confusion or hallucinations call your doctor immediately.
- Skins rashes, redness or peeling of the skin and/or blisters in the mouth
- Swelling of the throat face or mouth – can cause trouble breathing
- Around 30% of people using Chantix experiences nausea. You may also have problems sleeping, vomiting, constipation, gas, and/or vomiting. Should these side affects not go away in a short time contact your doctor.
- As always; with any prescribed medications, take caution while driving or operating machinery.
Chantix is not prescribed for anyone under the age of eighteen.
Although Chantix should not be taken with any other stop smoking aids, do seek the encouragement of others or join a support group while taking Chantix.
