When a patient has asthma smoking or even second hand smoke can be very harmful to them. It can trigger many of the symptoms that cause a asthma attack or even make one happen. When a patient inhales second hand smoke it is often times thought to be even more dangerous then them smoking. The smoke at the very end contains substances that are harmful such as tar, nicotine, carbon monoxide and a lot of others. The second hand smoker inhales these substances. If a person with asthma inhales them it might cause them to start coughing, wheezing or having shortness of breath. Patients should try everything they can to avoid smoking and if they do smoke, they should stop because of it triggering attacks. Some attacks on patients might be very harmful and cause death while other attacks could be mild but regardless, the patient should still avoid smoking. |
