Can Nicotine Withdrawal cause Anxiety?

In the early stages of Nicotine withdrawal one may face serious anxiety and panic attacks.  Anxiety is caused due to an urge brain has for nicotine and you are not providing nicotine to it. Anxiety may even be due to the way you are trying to quit smoking. It may be the wrong device or method that causes anxiety. There are many devices and methods available in the market but all may not be suitable for you. Few products one can choose from are chewing gums, nicotine patches or just simple mental strength and will power. Sometimes the side effects of the products may cause more anxiety or aggravate the existing panic. Without exercises, meditation and a disciplined approach it is easy for anxiety to creep in and affect mental health in addition to physical damage due to smoking. Seeing others smoke around when one is going through nicotine withdrawal is another reason for anxiety. Anxiety is also a common symptom of the imbalance in the brain chemicals. As the purpose of nicotine has been to promote a feeling of wellbeing, when one gets addicted to it he can’t do without the drug in order to feel good. Once the nicotine is stopped he cannot feel good and resultant is anxiety and depression.
